North Avenue has a huge heart for sharing God’s love in the world. We seek to participate in God’s transformative and healing work in and amongst ourselves, our neighbors, and our global community.
OUR VISION: In our shared service with others, we expectantly look for the Spirit to bring transformation to all involved – ourselves, our partners, local community members, government, and partner agencies. We see this as evidence of sustainable and transformative work that leads to shalom (peace, fullness, and completeness). This is an expression of who we are now, as well as who we are becoming – our imagined future. [Is 65:17-25]

Our Community Values and Approach
- Relationships matter – a lot.
- Local neighborhood knowledge, leadership, co-creation, and ownership are critical to bring about the fullness of our shared work together.
- Engagement – We live in an increasingly multi-cultural society. No one should be left out: diverse socio-economic and intergenerational approaches promote inclusive engagement.
- Participating together in God’s ongoing story makes visible the Kingdom of God in neighborhoods and nations around the world.
Our Faith Values and Approach
- We are all created in the image of God, uniquely gifted with the passion and purpose needed for flourishing communities. [Jer 29:7]
- We believe that the God of justice and mercy is ever present; from before we enter a community, and after we leave.
- We respect our neighbors of other faiths and seek:
- dialogue – as a sign of hope, growing our knowledge of each other.
- common action – joint actions that address tough issues in our life together.
Our Partners
We seek to work with partners who take a Both – And approach that breaks down the perceived barriers between: Jesus and Justice; Scripture and Social Impact; Reconciliation, Restoration and Shalom.
We work through a) Collaboration, b) Coordination and c) Cooperation frameworks as mutually agreed in each partnership.
Our Volunteers Opportunity – time, talent, and treasure
We aspire to create opportunities for volunteers to:
- Engage with people in acts of justice and compassion, in humility [Micah 6:8]
- Promote restoration, reconciliation and shalom in the community.
- Seek the welfare of the city where God has placed us, building flourishing community [Jer 29:7]

MISSION STATEMENT:“Born in war, raised in war, but I don’t want to die in war.” This shared reality among South Sudanese has emboldened the local church. Through RECONCILE—a Christian peacebuilding organization—divided communities are finding hope and healing. RECONCILE equips grassroots leaders across South Sudan and refugee camps with tools for conflict transformation and trauma recovery, remaining active through war, displacement, and high aid worker casualties. Rev. Nancy and Rev. Shelvis Smith-Mather have served in East Africa for nearly two decades. Nancy led education initiatives to combat illiteracy, while Shelvis, an Oxford graduate, helped build a peace institute through RECONCILE. A new partnership with Cambridge supports research into faith-based peacebuilding and curriculum development. In the face of war, they remain committed to a future where peace is not only possible—but inevitable.

Special Partnerships: Mission Grants and Space Partners
The North Avenue Mission Team has been able to cultivate special partnerships using our church facility and giving special one-time grants to ministries and organizations that are aligned with our vision, values, and approach.
Feet on The Street Ministries, AMIS, The Atlanta Children’s Day Shelter, and Lazarus each use our space in ways that blesses children and families, the unhoused community, and students in higher education.
The Mission Team has been able to give one-time grants to ministries and organizations both locally and globally. In the past few years, we have given grants to Memorial Drive Ministries, Restoration Atlanta, Jumpstart Automotive Training Center, Remerge, Tharwat Wahba, Maddie Halmalian, and Ministry of Hope – Lesotho. These special gifts allow us to be a part of innovative and holistic ministries that meet specific needs for a specific time.
