Discipleship at North Avenue

Rev. Jasmine Evans Swan is our Associate Pastor focusing on Young Adults, Adult Discipleship & Worship.

“Our congregation is like a garden, flourishing as we each contribute to its growth. Every prayer, act of service, and moment of fellowship is a seed planted in our community, and together, we watch these seeds grow into a strong, faithful body of believers. Let’s commit to supporting one another, sharing our gifts, and being open to the ways God is working in and through us. With hearts open to transformation, we can look forward to the harvest that lies ahead.”

TRANSFORMATIONAL FAITH DEVELOPMENT

“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Acts 2:42

At North Avenue, we want to be and to make disciples of Jesus Christ; in a word, we want to be missional. We believe that it’s not enough to teach by simply conveying information. Transformative Faith Development is learning through discussion and accountability; through mutual trust and strong relationships; through honesty and openness in our dealings with God and with each other. Scripture is our foundation, and relationships with God and one another are our focus.

We know that as we grow and mature as followers of Christ, our lives will be transformed in big ways!

Description: This class is based on John 4:14 and is for all parents of teens who are 11-25 years old. Sometimes as a parent, I need a drink from The Well.  We certainly want to be the kinds of parents who help our kids want to come back and drink from The Well when they need it. While our NAPC youth are in The Underground, we have the opportunity to stand by The Well! This class meets weekly, and parents are free to drop in and come as they are.  Each week, the facilitator will bring a current article relating to parenting teens, and attendees will discuss the article and share ideas on how our faith intersects this week with parenting our teenagers.

Time: 11:00 a.m – 12:00 p.m.

Location: BMC Classroom A

Mid Week Groups

There are many and varied opportunities to meet for friendship and encouragement during the week.

Description: This year there will be two groups. We will continue our monthly 2nd Tuesday meetings at 11am in room 3209. We will have time for prayer, study and lunch.

A second group will be a monthly evening or weekend offering for interested North Avenue women ages 0 – 100+. That’s right! We intend for this group to have young girls, college-aged students, working and retired women joining together in faith, fellowship and fun.

Description: The Wednesday evening group meets via Zoom from 7:00pm to 8:30pm and the Thursday morning group meets in person at NAPC in room 3210 from 10:00 am to 11:30 am. In order to thoroughly study the Gospel of Matthew, we are spreading it over two years. In 2024-25, we will study Jesus’ Galilean Ministry (chapters 1-13) and in 2025-26, we will read about Jesus’ Journey to Jerusalem (chapters 14-28).

Description: Join other men from NAPC to build friendships and connect with God through scripture, discussion, and prayer. Gourmet snack lunch followed by study. The group will meet every Thursday from 12:30 to 2:00 PM in Overlook 4100-B at North Avenue. For more details, email Dan Riggs at [email protected].

Description: The Avenue is a community-building program of North Avenue Presbyterian Church. Our purpose is to learn together, explore Atlanta, promote health and well-being, serve the community – and have fun! Currently, we meet on the first and third Tuesday of each month. The first Tuesday is an event at the church, 607 Peachtree St NE, Atlanta. GA 30308. The third Tuesday is usually a field trip. All are welcome!
