DESCRIPTION:On September 10\, from 11:30-1:30\, Dr. Wayne Clough\, scholar\, educator and visionary leader\, will share highlights of his diverse and long career in an interview: “My Journey to the Writing Life\, after Teaching\, Being a University President and Serving as Secretary of the Smithsonian – Why It All Led to the Georgia Coast.” Following the interview\, a light lunch will be served. Tickets for the event\, including lunch\, are $10.00. Please join us! \nWayne Clough\, a native of Douglas\, GA\, received his BS degree in civil engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1964 and his master’s degree in 1965. He went on to receive a PhD in civil engineering from the University of California\, Berkley. Dr. Clough returned to Georgia Tech as President in 1994\, the first alumnus to do so. \nDuring his fourteen-year tenure as President of Georgia Tech\, Dr. Clough helped transform the Institute into one of the leading research universities in the world. His tenure was marked by increases in enrollment as well as significant advancements in research\, innovation and campus development\, including the building of Technology Square and expanding in Midtown. Having held academic and administrative posts at Duke\, Stanford\, Virginia Tech and the University of Washington\, Dr. Clough is widely recognized as a leader in the field of civil engineering. He was elected to the prestigious National Academy of Engineering in 2008. \nUpon leaving Georgia Tech\, Dr. Clough became Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution\, bringing visionary leadership and serving the Smithsonian for six years. In recent years\, he has embarked on a new venture as a writer. He currently divides his time between the mountains and the coast of Georgia\, which is the subject of his next book. \nRegister here \n

DESCRIPTION:For all of our regular visitors\, we are so glad that you are spending time in our community! We would like to invite you to attend our next Membership Exploration Class. This class is designed for people who are ready to join the church AND for people who would like to know more about what membership means but may not be ready to join. It is truly an opportunity to explore North Ave. \nPlease join us on Saturday\, September 7 for dinner in a member’s home. At this dinner we will have a chance to get to know one another better along with some folks who are leaders in the church. Dinner is from 6:00-8:00\, and children are welcome. \nOn Sundays September 8 and September 15\, we will meet in the morning for breakfast before worship. Then we will spend time talking more about North Avenue’s mission\, vision\, your questions\, and what we mean when we talk about membership. At the end of the class\, on the 10th\, those who are ready will have an opportunity to join the church. Almost every class has people who do not join\, so feel free to come just where you are in the process. \nIf you are only able to make the first week of the class\, please feel free to join in! DESCRIPTION:The Federal Reserve sits in a prominent location at 1000 Peachtree Street NE. As you drive by\, ever wonder what goes on inside that prestigious building? The Federal Reserve museum is designed to give the public a glimpse of its operations with interactive multimedia exhibits that describe the Federal Reserve’s role in the economy. We will also see the cash-processing operations\, where millions of dollars are counted\, sorted\, or shredded daily. You’ll get a glimpse into the Bank’s automated vault and see the robotic transports that do the heavy lifting. \nFollowing our visit to the museum\, we will drop by Cafe Intermezzo\, on the corner of Peachtree and 11th Street\, where participants may purchase coffee\, tea or a delicious dessert.
